Betsy was born and raised in East Tennessee. She grew up in Louisville, TN and she is a product of the public school system, attending Maryville City Schools and graduating from University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Betsy lives in Hardin Valley with her husband Scott and their two children, Logan and Molly.
Nothing is more important to Betsy than being a great mom.
Serving first as a room mom and eventually as President of our PTO, Betsy knows how important parents are to our schools working side by side to support our teachers and administrators. As a Knox County School Board Member since December 2020, Betsy has tried to bring those experiences to the Board.
Before becoming a mom, Betsy worked in Washington DC. She moved there seven days after September 11, because she wanted to help make a difference. Betsy worked for two Republican Congressmen, John Duncan and Connie Mack. While she enjoyed her time in the nation’s capital, she is glad to be home in East Tennessee.
Betsy’s dad, Victor Kampas, immigrated from Greece at the age of seventeen and has started several businesses that became institutions in Knoxville including the Varsity Inn, Kampas Liquor, and Vic’s Lake View Market and Deli. Her mom, Rebecca, grew up in South Knoxville and graduated from South High School and her mom’s family has been in East Tennessee for generations.
Betsy was raised in Saint George Greek Orthodox Church and she and her family currently attends Cedar Springs Presbyterian.
Working to build on the successes and miracles that our schools perform every day.
Our kids only get one chance at an education and we must maximize their experience, ensuring they have opportunities for a bright future.
As your school board representative, I have worked to empower our parents, teachers, and principals to have the authority to tailor the system to fit the needs of the child.
Schools are a focal point of any community and essential to a thriving Knox County. Our schools rely on our community for support.
"I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve as the Chair of the Knox County School Board and thankful to my colleagues for entrusting me with this important role. I will continue to advocate for world-class schools for every student, support the great educators in our schools, and be a voice for parents."
